The band has toured in and been honored to share the stage with bands like, Mondo Generator, Fatso Jetson, Fu Manchu, The Melvins and many more.ĭoors To No Where will be releasing “Darkness Falls” via Desert Records on May 21st 2021.
Growing up on a skateboard and surfing has played a huge part on the influences of the sounds Doors To No Where like to include.
Doors To No Where have been called a stoner rock band but also touch on elements of punk, doom, metal and even grunge. Their sound is heavily influenced by Santa Cruz and the local beauty it offers along with the rich history of music. Doors To No Where have been making music since 2010. The succession of jabs, between the Goatsnake-ing groove of “Policy” and the finishing surge in “Who Died” and the rest of what surrounds becomes something of a consistency in itself, and the album is stronger for that." JJ - The Obeliskįeaturing Marc Lewis (Guitars/Vocals), Pete Testorff (Drums) and Marc Prefontaine (Bass). The trio don’t stay in any one place much longer than to leave a boot print as they’re off to the next thing, but there’s a consistency between “Fade” and “New Monster,” as vocals, tonal thickness and production/songwriting draw the release together as a whole. "From masterblaster-punk opener “Lie, Lie, Lie” through the early-Alice in Chains-style grunge chug of “Fade” and the classic metal epic tension in near-eight-minute finale “Darkness Falls,” the record runs a gamut of styles in a mere 31 minutes, finding a post-hardcore kind of heavy rock melody in “Worship the Machine” before the two-minute “Got Mine” shoves and sprints in post-Songs for the Deaf careening fashion. But something very unique and totally California. I don’t think it’s a minus as the qualitative level of the production remains pretty high.Ĭonclusion: You like EBM and you’re in search of a great- and intelligent album, try “Into Darkness”.īest songs: “Haunted Grounds”, “Too Late”, “Reanimate – Reminiscence”, “Broken”, “Dark Forces”.Īrtist: Label: / Falls" is the fourth studio album from Doors To No Where, a trio from Santa Cruz, California.įor fans of Fu Manchu and Kyuss, but mixed with classic Grunge such as Alice In Chains and Nirvana. – – – : ESR doesn’t innovate, but only improve the global production. ESR stands for sophisticated EBM mixing power and freaky atmospheres. The old- and reworked song “Reanimate” is a way to discover the evolution of ESR, but still confirming this project already had a nose for great EBM now twenty years ago. The retro touch running as a common thread throughout the album is achieved with a strong contemporary touch. He’s not composing original EBM, but simply a great, accomplished and alluring production. “Into Darkness” once more proves the writing skills of Vince Pujol. + + + : I guess it’s not the first time I say that ESR probably belongs to the most unrated EBM formations from the scene. There’re also a few instrumental cuts on the tracklist. One of the songs is a ‘new’ version of “Reanimate” originally released on ESR’s debut album “Distorted Visions” (2001).
The vocals still have this ghost-like production. It’s an elaborated EBM format mixing power, great sound treatments and retro-like atmospheres. I consider ESR to be one of the numerous ‘pupils’ of Frontline Assembly and this comparison still makes sense for this work. “Into Darkness” is the third work released on Advoxya Records.Ĭontent: “Into Darkness” sounds like a continuation of this project’s previous album and entire discography. Driven by Vince Pujol, “Into Darkness” was composed between 20 and released four years after the last album. Background/Info: This is album number eight for the French solo-project Electro Synthetic Rebellion ( ESR).
